MOBILE CINEMA
Iraq Mobile Cinema is now into its second year. The first Mobile Cinema started in the south of Iraq and showed in 7 cities. Over the last year we have seen many developments within Iraqi cinema. Filmmakers are returning back to film and a new generation of Iraqi filmmakers are experiencing a cultural awakening. The majority of cinemas in Iraq have been closed or are no longer used to screen films for the general public. Iraq Mobile Cinema is run by Iraqi film-makers and their colleagues with many years of experience in both the East and West.
Something needs to change. Iraq Mobile Cinema believes that uniting people through the medium of film can help bridge divided communities, acting as a uniting force for viewers through moral stories of pain and oppression, but also scenes of happiness and joy, that they can identify with. Therefore it’s important for us to keep up the good work of our mobile cinema and continue to build on its popularity, reaching even wider and more indigenous audiences than a conventional cinema can.
Two years ago, when Human Film & Iraq Al-Rafadain proposed the idea for Mobile Cinemas, nobody believed it was possible and nobody wanted to support it. As with all our past initiatives we have proved that anything is possible and people now, in Iraq, talk about the Mobile Cinema. Mobile Cinema starts after 7pm, bringing at dusk a hope and peace in Iraq like never before. This is the true power of cinema.
Iraq Mobile Cinema has appeared in the New York Times, USA Today, CNN, the LA Times and many more.
