22nd January 09Human Film UK & Iraq Al-Rafidain IQ were established in 2005, with Human Film NL opening in 2008. All with a common goal to seek and explore individual creativity and strengths in produce films that say something about the issues most important to us. Our respective and complimentary skills have allowed our small production companies to grow from the ground up, to the award winning and established production companies they are today. Today the companies are headed by Isabelle Stead, Mohamed Al-Daradji and Atia Al-Daradji
Since Human Film & Iraq Al-Rafidain was formed it has produced several award winning films including Ahlaam (2006), the first feature film, which received its World Premiere at the Cairo International Film Festival. Ahlaam continued to create an International presence; set and shot in Baghdad in 2004, the film attended over 120 International Film Festivals winning 25 international awards. Ahlaam went on to represent Iraq for the Academy Awards and Golden Globe consideration in 2007, alongside screening at BAFTA and has since been distributed in the UK, US, Australia, Arab World and Spain and other territories globally.
2010, Human Film & Iraq Al-Rafidain produced “Son of Babylon” a mother’s journey to bring home her son, set against the debris of a war torn Iraq; supported by The UK Film Council, The French State Department – Fond Sud (CNC), Screen Yorkshire and The Sundance Institute.
